Evie Shockley is the author, most recently, of semiautomatic (Wesleyan, 2017), winner of the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award in Poetry and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Her poetry appears internationally, in English and in translation, and is included in The Best American Poetry 2021; her literary criticism centres on innovative writing by Black women. She has been recognized with a Lannan Literary Award, among other honors. Shockley is Professor of English at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
