George Szirtes, b1948, is a Hungarian born poet, translator and memoirist who came to England at the age of eight. He has won the T S Eliot Prize for Reel , the International Booker for his translations of László Krasznahorkai, and the James Tait Black Prize for his memoir of his mother, The Photographer at Sixteen, Most recently he has been awarded the King’s Gold Medal for his poetry. His most recent book of poetry is Fresh Out of the Sky (2021).
