John McCullough

John McCullough’s collection, Reckless Paper Birds (Penned in the Margins), explores queer identity and vulnerability. It won the 2020 Hawthornden Prize and was shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Award. Three of John’s favourite poems from the collection were published in Stand: ‘Stationery’, ‘Queer-Cole’, and ‘Strange Stories and Amazing Facts’. His previous collections include The Frost Fairs, which won the Polari First Book Prize in 2012. His work often appears in Poetry Review and Poetry London. He teaches creative writing at the University of Brighton.
