John Michael Cummings' short stories have appeared in such journals as The Kenyon Review. His novella The House of My Father was a finalist in the 2006 Miami University Novella Contest, and his novel The Night I Freed John Brown (Penguin 2008) was the winner of The Paterson Prize for Books for Young People, and one of ten books recommended by USA Today for Black History month. He lives in Orlando with his cat, Sentry.
