Keith Hamnett was born in Manchester in 1940. Forty years teaching, ten in teacher education and ten as a tour guide showing people round Germany, France, and Belgium was accompanied by part-time translating work by Böll, Grass, and Walser published in Stand, Encounter and the London Magazine. His PhD thesis was published by the Edwin Mellen Press. He is currently helping a youngster back into education.
