Mario Lawi was born in Kupang, Timor, in 1991 and is currently finishing his graduate degree work in the field of theology. He has published four collections of poetry, including Ekaristi (Eucharist) which was named Best Indonesian Poetry Book of the Year by Tempo Magazine in 2014.
